Building on the success of her Borrowed Places tour, Miranda Sykes is back with a completely new project: Behind The Wall. Where Borrowed Places opened a window into the past, explaining where she had been, physically & spiritually, Behind The Wall is a Roller Coaster Ride exploring where we are going; Miranda, you, me, all of us. What does it mean to be human today, living in our communities & societies & where will our actions lead us? Powerful and hard-hitting but also poignant & beautiful, this show gives us all a chance to reflect & maybe even empower us.

Drop in for coffee and pastries between 10am -12 noon and meet Ali, our volunteer coordinator. Find out how you can help us and get involved in our events.

We need volunteers to help run our events - on the door, behind the bar, and setting up and clearing away. We also need help behind the scenes - putting up posters and doing the recycling to name a few. If you would like to get involved, or would just like to find out more, come along and talk to us. It's a great way to meet new people, and if you volunteer at an event you get to watch for free!

Laurie Lee - The Lost Recordings with David Parker : 7:30pm

An Illustrated talk by David Parker

Reflections on love, landscape, writing, poetry, childhood, music and much much more from the voice of one of the great English writers of the last century.

In 1994, the year of his 80th birthday, Laurie Lee shared his memories of an ‘eventful’ early life in a series of interviews with the film maker David Parker. It was quite a coup, Laurie did not ‘do’ television! In the recordings he talked with sublime eloquence about his life in the Slad Valley, and the influence of the landscapes and memories of his childhood on his subsequent writing. In this session David will introduce the recordings, and using extracts from them reveal what they tell us about one of England’s finest chroniclers of our times.

‘I was lucky in having this very rich start in life and was never out of touch with the community. Better than any soap opera. This script that I was living and enjoying, was sharing with my neighbours, wasn’t a product of an exhausted script writer, beer stained instead of tear stained, by someone who was recycling, for money, some second hand experiences that he picked up from a mate of his somewhere up The Old Kent Road. No, what we were sharing was certainly a thousand years old perhaps and the habits, the greatness, the goodness and the evil and the sins and the hungers and the habits of relying on each other for help was natural to us, and natural to these parts’.
