DAN WALSH : 8pm

A BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician Of The Year nominee and regarded as one of the finest banjo players in the UK Dan Walsh is also a superb singer, songwriter and guitarist who has been described as 'the real deal' (UNCUT). As well as many tours of the UK, he also has recent successful trips to USA, Canada, Germany, India, Norway and New Zealand to his credit. Describing what Dan does is no easy task but at the heart of it is British, Irish and American folk music delivered with a healthy dose of funky grooves - all performed with his unique and dazzling take on clawhammer style banjo. Add to all that poignant songs, astonishing musical departures and lively humour and the result is a truly memorable live show which has wowed audiences across the world from intimate seated rooms to huge dancing crowds in festival fields.

TANGO CALOR : 8pm

Tango Calor is one of the most exciting tango bands performing in the UK. The trio will take you on a journey from the night clubs of Buenos Aires to the salons of Paris with their evocative performances of traditional and contemporary tango music.

Mirek Salmon is one of the few players of the bandoneon (Argentine concertina) in the country. He formed the group in 2016 with sensational Latin vocalist Indira Roman (Salsa UK , Roberto Pla) and Dutch jazz pianist Daan Temmink. The band has performed in tango clubs and festivals around the country and gains new fans wherever they play. They are often called on to accompany visiting artists from Argentina and have also performed the works of Astor Piazzolla with members of the Welsh National Opera. In 2018 they were invited to play at the famous La Ghironda festival in Puglia.

“One of the best tango trios you will hear in the UK” Tango Alchemy

“If you want dancers to be out of their seats and enjoying great music, Tango Calor really does that” Viva la Dance

NARTHEN : 8pm

Featuring Barry Coope of Coope Boyes and Simpson, Jo Freya of Blowzabella/Moirai , Jim Causley 4 time BBC folk award nominee and Fi Fraser of The Old Fashioned/ Polka Works – this is a quartet of suburb vocal harmonies and multi-instrumentalism.

The material of the group features “songs that will touch your heart, engage your intellect and wow your ears. Expect pith, pathos and polyphony”. Narthen is a new name for a new venture. Familiar yet shiny and new which means you get that great mix of comforting familiarity and constant surprises. I didn’t know they did that…well they do!

Their debut Cd ‘Narthen’ was released in September 2018

“Their debut album shows off peerless harmony singing – an excellent album of singing and playing” RnR ****

“It’s a brilliant demonstration of the ensemble’s multi-faceted musical personality, whereupon they move effortlessly and appropriately between modes, juxtaposing pathos and heartbreak with seriously uplifting humour and historically informed commentary - This is a lively, eclectic CD from a vibrant quartet; a memorable and life-affirming set.” FolkRadio UK
