EXHIBITION: Living Under the Edge : 10am - 4pm

Free entry

Living Under the Edge is an exhibition by local artist Nicola Hill.
“I have been inspired to create whilst living in the lovely town of Wotton under edge. The beauty that I am surrounded by every day has inspired me to take up painting and creating images that are not only inspired from scenes of the town and country side but also the moments shared between the life here whether it be human or animal.
I enjoy looking at images from past and present and when I see an image I like I try to create my own version of it.
My work is impressionism with a dash of humour and my aim is to make the viewer smile as they imagine the story behind each image (as there is always a story).”

THE MODEL FOLK : 8pm

The Model Folk are a six piece band, hailing from the deepest darkest reaches of North Somerset. We play rumbustious balkan inspired original folk. Entirely acoustic, from the humble washboard and the throb of the double bass via the wheezing of the accordion and the shriek of the clarinet. With a chorus of voices telling tales of steam, soviet farming machinery, 1930s drag queens, circuses and tea. A ramshackle troupe of musicians, unafraid to fraternise with the audience, whipping them into a frenzy of folk and roll.

The band have played festival slots at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival, Folk on The Quay and Sidmouth Folk Festival where they played a guerrilla set in a butchers shop. They have also played impromptu sets on various trains on the Swanage Railway released on EP in 2013 called Travelling At The Speed of Cattle, An Album in 2015 Called The Great Pedants' Revolt and their latest album, Houses For Little Horses all on their own label Diabetic Horse Records.

HATTIE BRIGGS : 8pm

Hattie Briggs is coming to play at UTEA for the second time on Saturday 17th November - this time as a trio. Doors will open at 7:30pm, music at 8pm.

For those of you who didn’t attend her first concert here in 2017, Hattie Briggs is a 25 year-old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Recently named Fender Undiscovered Artist of the Year 2017, she won the prize of supporting Lucy Rose at the prestigious O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. Her music brings together pop, folk and electronic influences, which she delivers with honesty and intent.

Since making the decision to drop out of a Russian degree in her second year at Oxford University, she has released several EPs, two critically acclaimed albums, had airplay on BBC Radios 1, 2, and 6 Music, and embarked on tours around the UK, the Netherlands and the U.S. During her travels she has supported some well known bands and artists, including chart topping duo, Ward Thomas, at the O2 London’s Brooklyn Bowl, Lauren Aquilina, Stornoway, Jamie N Commons, Seth Lakeman and Grant Nicholas (Feeder). Influenced by Goldfrapp, Foy Vance and Jeff Buckley, Hattie writes and sings straight from the heart. Her crystalline vocals, and insightful lyrics resonate across all ages, rekindling old memories and capturing imaginations. Combined with catchy melody lines and a cheeky, charismatic stage presence, it's unsurprising the youngster is seriously impressing industry figures and fans alike.

Kev Jones - Communion Records, Bears Den “Brilliant songwriter…. your voice is off the scale”
