Café Capriccio : 8pm

Café Capriccio is an acoustic group that celebrates the music and culture of European Café Society.

The café culture goes back centuries, when the great thinkers, poets, philosophers, artists and even the revolutionaries of France would gather in their local café to debate, share and plot.

Art and history were shaped at the tables of these cafés while musicians wandered from café to café or performed on a small stage inside. The music played is often free in form and lively, a 'caprice', with the occasional melancholic piece thrown in for variety.

Café Capriccio aims to reproduce the music and atmosphere enjoyed by café society with melodies and rhythms as diverse as the countries they originate from.

Paul Johnson – Clarinet

Carole Marshall - Saxophones

Mike Sallis - Bass /Guitars

Peter Grogan - Guitar

Nathan King - Mandolin/Bass

FILM NIGHT - The Wrecking Season : 7:45 for 8:15pm

The second in our series of documentary films by Jane Darke.

In winter Jane scours the beaches for natural and man made wreckage that washes ashore from the Atlantic Ocean, the shores of America, fishing vessels and Cornish communities nearby. This was the subject of the documentary film she made with Nick Darke, THE WRECKING SEASON…
The film is written and narrated by Nick and filmed and directed by Jane. It is an expression of Cornwall’s place in the Atlantic community. Jane and Nick had become experts on the objects transported by ocean currents, seeds from the Caribbean, fisheries tags from Newfoundland and tropical hardwoods swept in by the tides.
First broadcast in 2005 on BBC4. Winner of First Time Director Award Celtic Film and TV Festival.
