Wotton Dramatic Society present RARE BREED : 7.30pm

"For the second time in the lives of most of us we are at war." ( King George, 1939.)

Wotton-Under-Edge Dramatic Society will be performing a rehearsed reading of Rare Breed, a play written by local playwright Mark Pasco, & directed by Jane Wallace. Woven around a mother's letters to her children in Canada, Dr Browne's “Bournstream bulletins", this new play celebrates the resourcefulness, characters & war effort of rural Wotton, mid-way through World War Two. It is the true story of a formidable woman & her hard-working household, rolling their sleeves up to care & provide for evacuated "babies" from blitzed cities in the South West. It is a time of rationing, a time of uncertainty, of missing their men "away", but also a time of change, of adventure & of women taking the lead. This is the second collaboration between Mark Pasco and the Dramatic Society, having twice before worked together to produce another play written by Mark, “Holding The Line”, which was last performed by the society at Under the Edge Arts in Autumn 2015
" I wonder what will strike you most when you return to this Old England of ours?" ( Dr Browne, 1942.)

There will be a fully licensed bar available at the interval
