Saturday 24th September 2016

Did you ever fancy a go at the Harmonica? Now's your chance to suck it and see - it's jolly good fun!
Ben Hewlett is an internationally acclaimed harmonica instructor, corporate team-builder and performer who has come highly recommended - google him to see why! and he is at your service for a workshop on Saturday 24th September for Wotton Blues Fest to show you the basics

Ben starts by demonstrating amazing Blues Harmonica. He gives some history of the harmonica, plays some unusual harmonicas, outlines the session and tells a few anecdotes. Then it's our turn. We'll learn how to hold the instrument and breathe in and out. Next he teaches a progressive series of Blues pieces by ear. They start very simply with a Blues shuffle and a Muddy Waters lick. All are really easy to learn. We learn some musical fun things on the way and Ben invites volunteers to solo over the chorus. He then teaches the 12 bar blues slowly and then adds some easy but effective arrangements. It ends with a massive musical climax using Blues Brothers music style piece with everyone standing up performing and wearing dark glasses (please bring if you can!)

Harmonicas (diatonic, 10hole, in C) will be provided on the day at discounted cost between £15-20 or feel free to bring your own. They must be in the key of C and have ten holes only. Ben will also have some amazing tuition book packages from, discounted by 50% for this workshop so bring some cash or pre-order from Ben on

Ben will also have information about the National Harmonica League (of which he is chairman) and their Harmonica Festival in Bristol (October 28-30). Their website is at if you would like to take a look.
