Book Launch - ‘Songs of Expectation’

Including dramatised readings from the book (involving members of the Wotton Dramatic Society), live music, Q&A with the author and book signing.

The novel is inspired by actual events from the late 1860s until 1939, when 100,000 British children from pauper backgrounds were sent to Canada to work, mostly on farms or in domestic service. Most never returned. The novel follows five fictional children, whose stories are typical: the challenges and prejudice they faced: the triumph against the odds that some enjoyed; the hardship and abuse suffered by others. And whilst it is a story from the past, much still resonates with the world today.
